Prilocaine is a local anesthetic of the amino amide type first prepared by Claes Tegner and Nils Lö Fgren. In its injectable form (trade name Citanest), it is widely employed in dental procedures. It is also frequently combined with lidocaine to create a formulation for dermal anesthesia (lidocaine/prilocaine or EMLA), which is effective in treating conditions such as paresthesia. Due to its low cardiac toxicity, it is a preferred choice for intravenous regional anesthesia (IVRA).
