The major pathway, N-dealkylation, produces the metabolites monoethylglycinexylidide and glycinexylidide, which exhibit pharmacological/toxicological actions similar to but less potent than Lidocaine hydrochloride. Approximately 90% of administered Lidocaine hydrochloride is excreted in various metabolite forms, with less than 10% being excreted unchanged. The primary metabolite found in urine is a conjugate of 4-hydroxy-2,6-dimethylaniline.
