Prilocaine, an exceptional local anesthetic of the amino amide class, was first synthesized by Claes Tegner and Nils Lö Fgren. Widely recognized in its injectable form under the trade name Citanest, it is a preferred choice in dental procedures. Moreover, it is often combined with lidocaine in dermal anesthesia preparations (known as lidocaine/prilocaine or EMLA) to treat conditions such as paresthesia. Its minimal cardiac toxicity makes it an ideal agent for intravenous regional anesthesia (IVRA).
